More people have come forward with claims that an Omaha cosmetic surgeon accused of malpractice has deformed their bodies. Nine additional cases have been filed.
A hearing is scheduled Thursday in front of Judge Polk to consolidate current cases and any new ones from the 9 filed Wednesday. There are currently 35 malpractice cases against Dr. Gerard Stanley.
The lawsuits name Dr. Stanley and Sculpt Contemporary Cosmetic Surgery. The complaints allege that patients suffered physical and emotional injuries including disfigurement, painful scarring and nerve damage.
In one case a patient alleges that she had a tummy tuck go wrong. She claims wounds didn't heal properly, leaving a painful, jagged scarring across her abdomen.
Omaha attorney James Martin Davis is representing 35 of the patients. He says consolidating the cases will make the process easier for everyone involved.
“We are asking to combine all five into one so it will be one trial and 4, 5 victims that will testify,” he said. “Saves a lot of money and court time.”
A representative of Dr. Stanley told us last year, “We believe Dr. Stanley and Sculpt Cosmetic Surgery provided excellent care to these patients. Through the court system everyone at Sculpt Cosmetic Surgery will be vindicated."
