COVID-19 update: 2 deaths in Douglas County; 25 new cases in Pott. County

Here is a summary of new cases and other COVID-19 stats reported Tuesday by health officials across Nebraska & Iowa.

Corrections staffer tests positive in Tecumseh

The Nebraska Department of Corrections on Tuesday confirmed a staff member at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution has tested positive for COVID-19 and is self-isolating at home.

“Notification will be provided to those who work and live in the facility as to the new positive case,” the NCDS release states

In addition, anyone who may have had close contact with the staffer will be required to self-quarantine until cleared by a medical provider, the release states.

To date, 19 NDCS staff members have been diagnosed with COVID-19; 10 have since recovered and returned to work, according to the release.

Tuesday's totals

has reported 131 new cases statewide for a total of 15,883. The state is also up three deaths with a total of 191.

The hospital bed availability is at 42 percent, the ICU bed availability is up 43 percent, and ventilator availability is at 78 percent.

is up 231 cases for a total of 22,238 COVID-19 cases. The state of Iowa also has reported 9 more deaths for a total of 626.

Iowa also reports a total of 13,477 recoveries.

25 new cases in Pott. County

The Pottawattamie County Public Health Department has reported 25 new COVID-19 cases.

Of the new cases, two are from Carter Lake and 23 are from Council Bluffs.

The County has a total of 437 cases.

96 new cases in Douglas County

The Douglas County Health Department has released early numbers for Tuesday.

The department has reported 96 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 5,302. The positivity rate for testing is just under 10 percent for this week, according to the department.

They also reported two new deaths. The deaths were both men, one older than 80, and one man in his 50s.

As of Tuesday morning, 345 medical and surgical beds were available for a 74 percent occupancy rate. There are 135 patients hospitalized with COVID-19.

Of the 367 ventilators, 122 were in use, and 37 were being used by COVID-19 patients.

The department also reports 1,236 recoveries.
