KEARNEY, Neb. (WOWT) -- Authorities in central Nebraska are trying to identify the person who abandoned newborn twins at a Kearney Hospital.
Police were alerted on Monday. The two boys were born at the hospital on Saturday, Feb. 2, but the mother apparently gave false ID information when she was admitted and left after giving birth.
Police investigators are working with the hospital and state Health and Human Services Department officials to identify the boys' mother. It's not clear whether she left her boys at the hospital under provisions of Nebraska's Safe Haven Law, which lawmakers approved in 2008 to protect newborns from abandonment.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Kearney PD at 308 237-2104.
