OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - More than 1,000 customers without power since late Friday afternoon had their electricity restored Saturday morning.

OPPD says an underground vault fire reported at 5:44 p.m. west of 24th and Harney was to blame.

The fire was put out around 7:30 p.m. and OPPD crews had to wait several hours before going down into the vault until it had cooled off.

The outage was mostly east of Interstate 480 from 34th Street to 18th Street and from Burt to Pacific.

"It's been pretty hot, so we're just hanging out waiting for the power to come back on so it can cool down in there," said Jared Kennedy with Greenstreet Cycles. "We've got people finishing the race, coming in hot and not getting any cooler coming inside."
