Police identify motorist who crashed into backyard deck of metro home

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- Police have identified a woman whose car ran off the road and crashed into the backyard deck of a West Omaha home Saturday morning as Elaina Seifert, 23, of Bellevue.

The crash happened near 163rd and Center around 8: 30 a.m.

Investigators say Seifert was eastbound on West Center Road in a Ford Focus when she lost control of the car. It crossed the raised center median and the westbound lanes of Center before smashing through a wooden privacy fence then launched over a 90 degree retaining wall, hit a swing set and crashed into the deck of a home near 163rd and Arbor.

Seifert appeared to be unconscious. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of facial injuries and a possible wrist injury. She is expected to recover.

Family members inside the house tell 6 News they were asleep at the time and woke to, "the loudest thunder," they had ever heard.

That "thunder" was the noise of the vehicle knocking out a deck support causing a wooden beam to fall and smash into the car's windshield.

The police investigation continues.
