Metro veteran's service is putting a new roof over his head
A local veteran is getting a thank you for his service in the form of a new roof for his Omaha home.
James Buchholz tells 6 News he has had issues with his roof leaking for about a year-and-a-half.
Thanks to the nationwide Roof Deployment Project, that won't be the case much longer. Xcel Roofing, Habitat for Humanity and other groups were on hand to get things started Thursday.
The homeowner tells us he couldn't be more grateful.
Buchholz said, “I think it's great that my service provided this for me. At the time, you know, I was drafted. I went and did my service and didn't think that much of it. I thought, ‘well, there went two years of my life.' Now I'm getting repaid. It's kind of nice."
Buchholz tells us he's looking forward to keeping his house warmer and much drier once the work is done.
The job has hit one snag. There’s more than shingles up there and the project has been put on hold until a large part of the roof can be removed and replaced.
