Metro Transit unveils new ORBT program
Metro Transit unveiled details of its new ORBT program Thursday. The new buses will run from 10th Street to Westroads Mall along Dodge and Douglas streets. The buses will be 60 feet long and powered by natural gas.
There will be stops every 10 minutes during rush hour and include on-board wifi and bike racks. Mayor Jean Stothert says there are several key benefits to the new bus program.
"It will reduce traffic congestion, it will increase development across the route to make Omaha more economically competitive. It will attract and retain young professionals and most importantly, it is safe,” Stothert told 6 News.
The final designs are underway and construction is set to begin this fall with the system launching in the fall of 2019.
