Memorial service held for Jasmine Harris

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- Friends and family gathered for a memorial service Friday for Jasmine Harris.

The 20-year-old was killed after being caught in the crossfire between two rival gangs in the Old Market on Saturday. Police said Harris was just an innocent bystander.

Harris was a graduate of Benson High School. Her family says she was loving and adventurous, giving and attentive. They say Jasmine was working several jobs so that she could someday put herself through cosmetology school.

They hope that after Friday's service they can work to end the violence in Omaha.

"I'm upset I'm angry about it right now, and I feel like I can put that anger into how we can strengthen this community and make it better so that this is not an ongoing every day issue with people's family and having to lose loved ones,” said Cheyenne Harris, Jasmine's sister.

Omaha's chief of police has promised the family that he would personally stay on top of this case for them.
