Manslaughter case brings probation sentence

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- Catessa Barnum has been sentenced to three to five years probation for a No Contest plea to Manslaughter.

Barnum was sentenced Tuesday by Douglas County District Court Judge James Gleason. She could have faced up to 20 years in prison.

Barnum was charged in connection with a September, 2017 altercation that led to gunfire at 36th and Lake. Shadaisja Hill, 15, was shot, critically injured and later died. Barnum was arrested days later.

Investigators has said at the time of the incident they believed the shooting stemmed from an argument involving the victim's mother and Barnum.
