Man faces child abuse charges in domestic violence incident

An Omaha man is facing child and animal abuse charges in connection with an incident of domestic violence.

Police were called to a home near 40th and Boyd on Wednesday night where a woman said her boyfriend kicked her out of the house. He reportedly wouldn't let her take her youngest child with her.

Officers reportedly found two children locked inside, crying and pounding on a screen door. The older child unlocked the door and police made their way inside.

There they found the suspect, Richard Brookshire, passed out on a couch. It reportedly took police five minutes to wake him up.

Brookshire is charged with two counts of child abuse. He also faces one count of animal abuse for allegedly kicking his girlfriend's dog.
