Man arrested for DUI, high-speed chase with a child in the car

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An Omaha man is in jail after taking troopers on a high-speed chase with a child in the car.

The Nebraska State Patrol said a Chevy Trailblazer was traveling 102 miles per hour on Interstate 80 when a trooper attempted to make a traffic stop.

The driver fled and exited onto Highway 75, drove through neighborhoods and stopped at a residence on S. 16th St.

The driver exited the vehicle at the residence and ignored the trooper's orders. A five-year-old child also exited the vehicle.

The trooper attempted to arrest the driver, but he resisted. He was eventually taken into custody when other troopers and Omaha Police officers arrived to assist.

The driver was identified as David Chico, 31. He was arrested for driving under the influence, felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, transporting a child while intoxicated, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, open alcohol container and speeding greater than 36 miles per hour over the speed limit.

The high-speed pursuit lasted about four minutes.

The child was left with family members.
