LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) -- Lincoln Police Officer Matthew Brodd has resigned from the Lincoln Police Department following a DUI investigation. Brodd had served as a police officer for 21 years.
On Sunday, December 2nd, 2018, at approximately 4:36 p.m., Brodd was driving a Toyota Tacoma when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a light pole on the northwest corner of North 45th Street and Vine Street causing damage to the vehicle and the light pole.
Brodd was off duty at the time of the collision. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was transported to a local hospital by Lincoln Fire and Rescue due to injuries. The preliminary investigation found that alcohol may have been a factor and that Brodd was not wearing his seatbelt.
On Thursday, December 13th, 2018, LPD received the results of the chemical test for blood alcohol levels from the Nebraska State Lab. The test showed an alcohol concentration of .173 g/100 ml of blood.
On Monday, December 17th, 2018, Brodd was cited by the Lincoln Police Department for 1st offense DUI (Aggravated), No Seat Belt, and Speed Too Fast for Conditions. Based on the accident investigation and the results of the chemical test for blood alcohol levels, LPD also initiated an internal investigation.
