HEARTLAND FLOOD: Highway 15 to be back in full service by Monday

A state highway in eastern Nebraska that's been closed since the March floods is set to fully reopen next week.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation says construction and repair work on Highway 15 and a Platte River overflow bridge south of Schuyler will be complete Monday and will fully reopen to traffic. The roadway and bridge had been opened to one-lane traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals since June 1.

Floodwaters washed out portions of the roadway and caused significant damage to the pavement, also causing significant damage to the overflow bridge. Contracted crews in partnership with the transportation department were able to design and perform repairs to the bridge, saving it from total reconstruction.

Total cost of the repairs to the 2-mile section came to $2 million.
