57 quarantined passengers arrive at Omaha airport en route to Camp Ashland

The flight bound for Omaha carrying Americans quarantined for coronavirus as a precaution touched down just after 6:40 p.m. Friday at Eppley Airfield.

About 57 quarantined people are aboard the flight and will be screened by the CDC before heading for Camp Ashland to wait out the remainder of their two-week quarantine period, said Peter Cassell with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Earlier on Thursday, 6 News was told the group of about 70 people would arrive at Eppley Airfield anytime between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. Friday. Flight information filed Friday morning indicated the plane was expected to land sometime just after 3 p.m.; but after a delay of almost four hours, the flight took off at 4:40 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Omaha at about 6:45 p.m.

After 11 hours and 12 minutes, that information shows the plane departing from Wuhan, China, arrived at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, Calif., at about 5 a.m. Friday.

Hundreds more people evacuated from the virus zone in China began arriving Friday at military bases across the U.S. to begin a two-week quarantine. U.S. officials said at a news conference in Washington on Friday that more than 800 people have been brought to the United States from Wuhan on recent flights.
