Authorities identify five killed in Nebraska Panhandle traffic accident

BRIDGEPORT, Neb. The Nebraska State Patrol has identified the five people killed in a Nebraska Panhandle traffic accident Sunday evening.

The crash involving an SUV and a semi happened in Morrill County just north of Bridgeport and took the lives of all five occupants of a Ford Expedition.

They are identified as the driver, Amy Rednest, 30, of Alliance, Nebraska and passengers Vanessa Gomez, 31, of Westminster, Colorado; Nevaeh Montoya, 14, of Westminster; Emma Reza, 13, of Alliance and Falicia Reza, 9, of Alliance.

The NSP said the accident happened around 6 p.m. MT in a heavy rain.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near the junction of Highway 385 and L62A. The driver of the northbound Expedition lost control, hydroplaned and spun into the southbound lane of Highway 385 where it was hit by a southbound semi.

The victims all died at the scene.

The driver of the semi, Brian Schmer, 61, of Hudson, Colorado, was taken to a hospital in Bridgeport with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
