OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- A First Alert Day continues for Friday, January 17, 2020 for a wave of snow that will impact the morning commute.
Temperatures will fall back into the 10s tonight ahead of the storm system set to bring snow and wintry mix on Friday.
Models continue to show snow moving into SE Nebraska during the pre-dawn hours of Friday morning and spreading into the Omaha Metro between 3am - 6am. Impacts to the morning commute are still very likely even with the later start time.
Models have also started trending towards a longer window of snow as compared to the wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain. We're still expecting a changeover to happen, but that may happen later in the afternoon, and for a shorter amount of time.
The big question with this system, of course, is temperatures. Both aloft and at the surface. The models did not do a great job at seeing how cold the current air mass is. Now that they see the cold air the trend towards a little bit more snow has happened.
We'll continue to monitor all available information coming into the weather center and watch these very fine details for further adjustments. Stay tuned!
