Fire safety education program travels to La Vista
Curiosity can be very dangerous when it comes to fire.
That's why Bic, which makes lighters, and a group called Fireproof Children brought their safety program to La Vista on Friday.
The program teaches those who care for young kids about the challenges that come up when talking to young children about fire safety.
Parents are urged to start that conversation with their kids as early as pre-school age.
"It's really important. Sometimes people think that kids are too young and that they shouldn't be interested in fire, or they already know about fire and they're dangerous and it's quite frankly they don't," said Molly Clifford, Executive Director of Fireproof Children.
A recent study found children start nearly 50,000 fires every year.
