A burning semi shut down westbound traffic on Interstate-80 just west of Lincoln Saturday morning causing hours of delays.

It happened around 10 a.m. and forced emergency crews to completely shut down all westbound interstate traffic.

Reports of heavy black smoke and traffic at a standstill were followed by the notification from the Nebraska State Patrol via Twitter that all westbound traffic had been brought to a halt.

At 11:40 a.m. the Patrol tweeted, "One lane of westbound traffic is now open at I-80 at MM392. Traffic is clearing, but will still be moving slowly for a while."

According to the Nebraska Department of Roads, the closure involved an accident four miles west of Lincoln.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
