Filibuster stalls Nebraska property tax relief bill

LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) -- The last-minute push to pass a property tax-relief package stalled in the Nebraska Legislature this week.

Supporters fell 10 votes short Wednesday and failed to overcome a filibuster.

The vote could threaten prospects for another measure which would create new incentives for businesses and eliminate several sales tax exemptions.

Several rural lawmakers reluctantly supported that bill with the understanding that senators would pass a property tax package.
