SATURDAY FLOOD UPDATES: One fatality confirmed in Fremont County

Below are the latest flooding and weather-related reports throughout the region for Saturday, March 16:

The I-29/U.S. 34/U.S. 275 interchange has closed in Mills County due to a levee breach.

Unified Command will be enforcing a curfew in Valley and Waterloo beginning at 8 p.m. Union Pacific will cease transportation operations at that time.

Non-emergency evacuations will cease in Valley and Waterloo at 8 p.m., and if residents are not rescued by that time they will have to shelter in place until morning. Rescues will resume at sunrise. 911 can be called for medical emergencies.

Saunders County has added the communities of Sandy Pointe Lake and Wann to their mandatory evacuation order.

Sheriff Kevin Aistrope in Fremont County, Iowa has confirmed one fatality in the county due to flooding. More updates to come.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said they are continuing to monitor the water compromising the majority of the levee systems along the Missouri River. [

Mills County Emergency management is requesting volunteers to help fill sandbags beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday at Al Huges Auction in Glenwood at 21929 S. 221st St. Volunteers need shovels, closed-toed shoes, gloves, water and a sack lunch.

Saunders County Emergency Management has issued a mandatory evacuation for the communities of Thomas Lakes, Lake Allure and Big Sandy due to imminent levee failure.

NPPD said the Cooper Nuclear Station is still operating at 100 percent and water levels near the station have been receding. There is no indication of leakage at the facility.

The Nebraska Emergency Management Association is calling the state's flooding "historically catastrophic." The State Emergency Operation Center will remain open as long as it is needed and is staffed by NEMA, NSP, DHHS, Nebraska Fire Marshal, NDOT, DNR and Nebraska Military Department among others.

As of 1 p.m. Saturday, 52 counties and two tribes had issued emergency declarations.

Nema continues to organize rescues and encourages residents to follow all evacuations, suggested and mandatory.

The Salvation Army Gene Eppley Camp east of Highway 75 was taken over by floodwaters. The property appears to be a total loss as water has overtaken buildings up to the roofs.

The employees who live at the camp have lost their homes.

Bellevue Police said they have rescued 10 people, two dogs and two cats from Paradise Lake and Green Acres. Those neighborhoods remain closed, as do Haworth and American Heroes parks.

An official with Fremont County Emergency Management said that there has been a breach in the levee near Hamburg, Iowa. Those who live between Bluff Rd. and the Missouri River are being evacuated.

Levee breeches near Bartlett are also a problem, as well as the levee on the Missouri River being topped. The official said only rooftops can be seen in Bartlett.

Hamburg is fighting the water the southeast side to keep the Nishnabotna River from flooding the town.

Somewhere between 450 and 700 people have already been evacuated.

Unified Command is working with Union Pacific Railroad to use high-rail vehicles to transport Waterloo and Valley evacuees to Elkhorn Middle School.

Resources at the Elkhorn shelter include security provided by OPD, kennels and pet food provided by NHS and a variety of services provided by the American Red Cross.

The Army Corps of Engineers announced the reduced the releases from Gavins Point Dam to 73,000 cubic feet per second on Saturday. Reductions will continue, reaching 20,000 cubic feet per second Tuesday. [

Mills County, Iowa issued an evacuation preparation recommendation for the City of Pacific Junction. Residents are recommended to start preparing to evacuate as mandatory evacuation could be issued in the near future due to two levee failures and a levee breach in the area.

Bellevue Police are conducting water rescues in the Green Acres and Paradise Lakes area, which are both closed. Water continues to move into the communities and quickly.

The Omaha Airport Authority said that Eppley Airfield has not been affected by local flooding. FLight operations are going on as usual.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office will issue citations to anyone who drives around barricades on closed roads in the flooded areas of Valley and Waterloo.

One person already had to be rescued Saturday morning when they were trying to look at the flooding and their truck stalled in the water.

A false rumor is circulating that Omaha's drinking water is contaminated.

Bellevue Police said that Paradise Lake and Green Acres are expected to remain closed for an extended period. Utilities have been partially turned off in the area and rescue personnel continues rescuing people trapped in the area.

Law enforcement will patrol the neighborhoods 24-seven and will not let anyone enter the areas.

Harlan Lewis Rd. is closed from 27th Ave. to the south and Highway 370 remains closed east of Warren St. Haworth and American Heroes parks also remain closed.

The Omaha Mayor's Office wants to remind residents not to try and view the rivers or drive through barricades. Omaha Police will be providing security along the Missouri River levee in Omaha to prevent sightseeing.

Sarpy County advised all residents who remain in areas along the Platte and Missouri rivers to evacuate immediately. Power may be shut off to those communities for safety.

The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office will only attempt human rescues in daylight hours. Anyone who chooses to ignore evacuation advisories and needs rescue after nightfall will have to wait until the following morning.

Mills County extended their mandatory evacuation to include the area from 221st south to Waubonsie Ave. between I-29 to the west and Levi Rd. transitioning to Norris Rd, transitioning to Painter RD. to the east.

The Iowa Department of Transportation listed I-680 between the Missouri border and I-29, I-29 in both directions between the I-680 interchange (near Loveland) and North 25th Street in Council Bluffs, Northbound I-29 between U.S. 136 in Missouri (near Rock Port, Mo.) and U.S. 34 in Iowa (near Pacific Junction) and Southbound I-29 between the I-80 interchange in Iowa (near Council Bluffs) and U.S. 136 in Missouri (near Rock Port, Mo.) as closed.

Traffic from Kansas City is being diverted up I-35 to Des Moines and over.

The National Weather Service has issued mandatory evacuations in Fremont for the area bounded by County Road 17 to the west, County Road 20 to the east, County Road T to the north and south to Davenport. Fremont city administrators called it a "small breach."

Douglas County Emergency Management confirmed to 6 News that Highway 6 is closed at the Platte River.

The National Weather Service said that the Army Corps of Engineers has reported levee failures across from Nebraska City and a few miles south of Plattsmouth on the Iowa side of the Missouri River. There is also a breach on the Iowa side across from Offutt Air Force Base.

The levee breach near Fremont has halted efforts to move those at the Valley shelter to Fremont. [

There is no access to Green Acres in Bellevue as the road at 27th and Hancock is now closed, according to Bellevue Police.

Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk confirmed Scott E. Goodman, 30, of Norfolk, went missing around 4 a.m. when he fell into flood-control water near the North Fork Elkhorn River on Thursday. [

Paradise Lake is closed. There is no access due to the flooding. Harlan Lewis is closed south of 29th Avenue. Bellevue Police was conducting rescues and ask that everyone stay out of the area.

A levee failure has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood emergency for Fremont and a flash flood warning southeastern Dodge County, according to an NWS alert: "A levee breach on the northwest side of town along the Platte River has failed which will cause flash flooding shortly of the immediately surrounding areas. Residents are urged to move to higher ground now."

Phone lines are out in Arlington, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Officials were asking those in the area to check on neighbors who might not have cell phone access. [
