The Douglas County Board took time Tuesday to recognize a leader here in Omaha.

Mike Saklar, the executive director of the Siena Francis House, is retiring after 16 years.

The board recognized his career in helping the homeless calling him the driving force in the community.

He was presented a plaque commemorating his work.

"I honestly don't think anyone can fill your shoes with the same commitment and passion that you have for others,” said board member P.J. Morgan.

Saklar says he will try to stay involved with the shelter. He will officially retire on Friday.
