Dogs that are known for getting people through harsh conditions are needing help to survive. A rescue group is teaming the huskies with veterans so they can support each other.
Jim Scanlan is a Marine veteran who adopted a Husky through the Taysia Blue Rescue. Almost 60 Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes have been saved this year and 21 of them placed with veterans. Both man and their best friend know about stress.
Scanlan said, “You know you have someone who is caring for you then you know, oh yes I love you buddy, that they always care for you and at that point i have a battle buddy.”
Stephanie Konz of Taysia Blue Rescue said, “A lot of the dogs have baggage and then the veterans have their own baggage and so they stick together and they help each other through things.”
The rescue is holding a fundraising event Saturday night at the Chrome Lounge near 85th and Park Drive. The money will help pay for food and veterinarian bills.
