OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- A death investigation is underway after a 48-year-old woman was found deceased in an Omaha home Sunday evening.

The call came out near 189th and L Street just after 9 p.m. Sunday. Deputies entered the residence and made their way to a bedroom where they discovered the body of Carrie A. Brown, 48. Brown was the victim of an apparent gunshot wound and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies met with the resident Craig Wiech, 52, at the scene. Officials said Wiech and Brown were in a relationship and resided in the same home. Wiech is a Bellevue police officer.

Bellevue officials said Brown worked as a civilian employee for the Bellevue Police Department for over eight years. She started her career as a Front Desk Clerk in 2009 and became an Evidence Technician in 2014.

The circumstances leading up to her death are under investigation.

A press release from the Douglas County Sheriff's office at 3:30 p.m. said that Wiech became combative with first responders and assaulted an officer. He was booked for Assault on a Peace Officer.

The police report states that Wiech stated, "I'm gonna f--- you up," to officers then punched one of them in the chest. Officers had to use force to take Wiech into custody because he was not cooperating.

An autopsy for Brown is scheduled for Monday.
