OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - It was a cold start across the entire area today as temperatures dropped below freezing for everyone, effectively ending the growing season for this year. After the cold and frosty start, sunshine, dry air and gusty winds combined to give us a nice temperature boost this afternoon. While still technically below average, temperatures approached 60 degrees in the metro with wind gusts of 30 to 35mph. Winds will die down quickly as we approach sunset, with light winds overnight. The clear skies, light winds and dry air will allow temperatures to fall off fairly quickly. In fact, we will likely see another light freeze tonight in many spots, with lows between 30 and 33. Expect another layer of frost when you wake up Sunday morning.
Lighter winds and sunny skies are expected Sunday morning, though temperatures will still be on the cool side for this time of year with highs in the middle 50s. Winds may become gusty once again during the afternoon, with gusts of 20 to 25mph. Warmer weather will return on Monday as temperatures climb into the low to mid 60s. Another push of cool air will arrive on Tuesday along with gusty winds, though dry weather will continue. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will likely only top out in the mid 50s once again. More typical mid-October temperatures arrive by Thursday lasting into the weekend. Highs should climb back into the mid or even upper 60s to around 70 through Saturday. Our next chance for rain holds off until at least Saturday night of next week.
