Critical access restored between Omaha and Fremont

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- Navigating areas hit by historic flooding got a little bit easier Tuesday, with highway travel now open between Omaha and Fremont.

An image taken Tuesday shows Highway 275 just east of Waterloo — 275 is also known as West Maple Road there — showed cares moving in both directions. Nebraska DOT confirmed Tuesday morning that it is now open.

Unfortunately, some people still remained caught up in a traffic jam Tuesday morning along Highway 36.

Highway 36 was the first road open linking Omaha and Waterloo since the flood and it is down to one lane.

Meanwhile, receding waters and sunlight have revealed that on a portion of Interstate 29, previously submerged on the north edge of Council Bluffs, the lanes have been washed out.
