OPD responded to the crash at 50th and Ames just before 4 a.m.

According to police, a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling west when it left the roadway, struck a fire hydrant, continued back onto Ames Ave., drifted across the raised median into eastbound traffic and left the roadway on the other side.

When leaving the roadway, the Jeep struck a tree and caught on fire.

Several witnesses pulled the unrestrained driver from the vehicle. They were the only occupant.

Omaha Fire put out the fire and transported the driver to the hospital. Police say the injuries the driver sustained to the face may be serious.

The driver was identified as Dominick Davis, 22, of Omaha and he was cited for DUI, negligent driving, colliding with a fixed object and not wearing a seatbelt.
