Community teams up for neighborhood cleanup

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Volunteers took to the streets Saturday to clean up parts of the Omaha community.

Around 45 people were at 24th and Spencer picking up trash and winterizing the garden located there.

Global Leadership Group Omaha partners with community members to keep the area and the surrounding neighborhood clean.

Saturday's event was in partnership with Keep Omaha Beautiful.

Volunteers included students, who traveled from as far away as Lincoln, and they received a letter of recommendation from the mayor.

LaVonya Goodwin said it's important to partner with neighborhood associations to provide the services.

"It's important on so many levels when you volunteer. So many. Anyone can do it and give back to the community, but it also shows people in this specific community that we care," Goodwin said.

The garden was planted in 2016 with hopes to beautify the lot it is on and build a sense of community.
