With so many colleges increasing the price of tuition, Omaha’s College of Saint Mary announced Tuesday its plan to slash prices. It's the latest effort in ensuring college is affordable to more students.

The College of Saint Mary is set to cut tuition rates by $10,000 for undergraduates.

Emily Ely is a student and single mom who said, "It's to help us access education. It's in our mission statement and it's nice to be at a school where they are living out their mission statement. It's not just words written on a wall.”

The reduction will be felt immediately by current students who will see an extra $1,000 in their pockets. For Allison Novotney, that means peace of mind.

"It's going to be easier to balance everything because I am not going to have to worry so much about making those tuition payments,” she said.

College leadership says a tuition cut like this typically means a push for enrollment, but at Saint Mary, they are bursting at the seams. The move is a push to make sure higher education remains affordable.
