OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - We could quite possibly see record breaking heat this afternoon while we're watching for storms mostly to our north.
The current record high for the day is 93, and we're forecasting 95. So wouldn't be at all surprised if we see a new record by the end of the day. Lots of sunshine will continue this afternoon, but we may see a few clouds blow off once any storms develop later.
On the topic of those storms, the Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk (2 out of 5) up for areas north of I-80 stretching on a pretty straight line from Des Moines, IA to Columbus, NE. Primary threat for this outlook would be hail and strong winds.
We're also keeping an eye on Saturday. For now, we'll continue with the First Alert Day mainly due to several events going on this weekend. The morning model runs came in a little east of where they were yesterday, and show storms developing over Western Iowa or extreme SE Nebraska and quickly pushing east.
Still something to watch, but for now that threat has decreased a bit. Stay tuned!
Have a great day!
