‘Canterbury Cannibal’ held in Washington County Jail without bond

BLAIR, Neb. (WOWT) -- Registered sex offender Dale Bolinger is being held in the Washington County Jail, according to online jail records.

Last week Bolinger sparked panic for people living in a Blair neighborhood. Bolinger is known in the United Kingdom as the ‘Canterbury Cannibal.’

He was sentenced in 2014 for crimes by the Canterbury Crown Court that included cannibalistic themed child pornography. According to British court documents from his 2014 sentencing Bolinger would digitally alter indecent images of girls and pose them with apples in their mouths on serving platters or inside ovens. A jury convicted Bolinger of making arrangements to meet a 14-year-old girl, have sex with her, kill her with an axe and then eat her.

He's currently being held without bond in Washington County Jail for reasons not listed on online jail records. Since no charges are listed, that can mean that a person is being held on a mental health warrant but the sheriff's department is unable to confirm that.

Washington County Attorney Scott Vander Schaaf said in a statement, "We want to inform the citizens of Washington County that law enforcement and the county attorney's office know the location of Mr. Bolinger and you can rest assured that he not a threat to the community at this time.”

“The sheriff and I have been closely involved with the Bolinger situation," said Schaaf.

Bolinger has the right to stay in Blair since he has served his time overseas. Since moving to the area, Bolinger registered as a sex offender as legally required.
