Big Ten baseball kindles the College World Series fires
The Big Ten Baseball Tournament is in town and some businesses around the ballpark are using the event as batting practice for the College World Series that comes to town in a few weeks.
If you own a business downtown the key is location, location, location.
Lots of people are making their way to TD Ameritrade Park and almost all of those fans will walk by Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina. Rocco’s is right across the street from the ballpark - about as far as home plate is from first base.
Kevin Culjat, with Rocco’s, said, “You’re 90 feet away from the front door so it’s a pretty good location especially when you got the Big Ten Tournament and the College World Series going on.
Anne Lyman was in no rush to get into the stadium to watch the game Friday. She was sitting right across the street from the front steps of the ballpark. “It’s great to come and people watch and see the fans and see how many people are enjoying it,” she said.
Kevin is using this weekend as a sort of warmup, preparing his staff for the huge crowds the CWS will bring.
“A chance to have Nebraska and Iowa play - obviously more fans are going to show up than they normally do so it’s a nice little get ready for the College World Series type event. Lot of excitement around. You’re going to get a couple of games here in the next two days kind of give you that CWS feel when you have this many people coming to watch the Big Ten Tournament.”
The big crowds attracted by the College World Series will be in town soon. The CWS starts June 15th.
