Basketball fans arrive in Omaha
The excitement is building for the NCAA’s Sweet 16 right here in Omaha. It is the road to the Final Four and there is no shortage of Clemson pride.
"We're just excited to cheer on our Tigers. First time we've been in the Sweet 16, I think, since the 1990's. So we're just all super pumped,” said Summer Gandy with the Clemson Spirit Squad.
The color orange was also out thick just one day before the games and according to many Clemson fans – it’s for good reason.
"It's like a family,” said Clemson Athletic Department’s Bobby Couch. "We've got people flying in from all over the country to follow the Tigers, and everyone's excited about coming to Omaha."
According to Bobby, "Nebraska Nice" is really winning them over.
"We were walking around town, last night, and the people have been so nice,” he said.
A number of locals were selected to host each team. Leroy Swedlund is part of the Syracuse Team Host.
"If they have a need or a question, we're there to help,” he said.
Players and fans, no matter where they come from, can be rest assured they'll be well-taken care of when it comes to the "must-see" and "must do" while they're here.
"Definitely eat. I've heard the steak is really good, so I'm going to try that tonight,” said Aaron with the Clemson Spirit Squad.
Those team hosts are unlike the College World Series hosts. These hosts are supposed to have as little interaction with the team as possible. This is per the NCAA. They are just there in case the team has any questions during their stay.
Clemson will take on Kansas in the first game of the weekend.
