Two-alarm blaze heavily damages metro apartment building

A two-alarm fire heavily damaged at building in an apartment complex in the 5400 block of S. 86th Court Saturday afternoon.

The call came in shortly after 2:30.

Crews reported heavy smoke on approach at The Pines at Q Plaza. The heaviest damaged was on an upper floor of the building.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire but one firefighter was treated at the hospital as a result of the heat.

Rescue crews searched the building checking for anyone who might have been inside.

Burned and melted furniture sat outside the building as fire crews worked on knocking down the flames.

The family that lived in the unit with the heaviest damage was away when the fire broke out. They said no one was inside that they were aware of.

Authorities were able to resuscitate a dog that had been overcome by smoke.

There was no initial word on what might have started the blaze.
