Ambulance fire halts traffic on Highway 36
Authorities shut down Highway 36 in both directions between 156th and Highway 133 Saturday evening due to an ambulance fire.
It happened around 5:45 P.M.
Bennington Volunteer Fire & Rescue crews reported the ambulance was in flames when the arrived on scene.
There was a patient in the private ambulance, who was then taken to a nearby hospital.
No injuries were reported, and flames were extinguished quickly.
Conditions were reported to be icy on the highway, and NDOT trucks were called out to apply salt and sand.
The fire was eventually contained and the closure was shortened to an area between 138th and 132nd by 6:30. By 6:45, westbound traffic on the highway resumed and NDOT reported that all lanes had reopened shortly before 7 P.M.
