Donations needed: Help UNO 'Can Hunger – Fill The Truck!' food drive
6 News has teamed up with UNO to help fight hunger.
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, student athletes are out to collect donations for
They're working to fill the truck with non-perishable donated items in a friendly competition between several schools in the Midwest.
The most requested item? Peanut butter. But if you don't have food to drop off, don't sweat it; monetary donations are also welcome here.
"The Summit League wanted to come up with a way that all of the student athletes could give back to the community that supports them at all of their competitions," said student athlete Renata Valquier Chavez. "And we thought there's no better way to give back than through the holiday season than a canned food drive, with something that's hopefully going to give back from here until the end of the season."
On Friday, the truck will be closed, and all donated items will be taken to the Food Bank.
Omaha Athletics is hoping to #CanHungerFillTheTruck this holiday season with a food drive outside Baxter Arena today and tomorrow. What better way to do that than to get in truck ourselves! Check it out @WOWT6News pic.twitter.com/2LnHppiHoV— Leigh Waldman (@LeighWaldman) December 4, 2019
