Driver facing charges after deadly crash on Highway 75

Bond was set at $250,000 Friday for a woman charged in connection with a deadly traffic accident on Highway 75 at Lake Street.

Meghan Moyers, 23, is accused of Manslaughter for the death of Jerome R. Payton Jr., 32. Moyers was initially identified by the alias Meghan Kinsey.

The crash happened shortly after 1 A.M. on April 16th.

Investigators said Moyers was northbound in a Nissan Altima when the vehicle hit the rear bumper of a northbound Chevy Tahoe driven by Payton. Payton's Tahoe slid off the road and rolled after hitting a metal light pole. He was ejected and died at the scene.

According to court records, Moyers told investigators that the driver of the Tahoe had pressed the brakes and, "stopped in the middle of the road," but when pressed for clarification she said, "it wasn't like they were halted."

Moyers was booked for DUI-Serious Bodily Injury, reckless driving and not wearing a seat belt. Her BAC proved to be .066 which is below the legal limit.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 23rd.

An Omaha woman has been booked on several charges following a deadly Tuesday morning traffic on Highway 75 at Lake Street.

Investigators say Meghan Kinsey, 23, was northbound in a Nissan Altima sedan shortly after 1 A.M. when the vehicle hit the rear bumper of a northbound Chevy Tahoe driven by Jerome R. Payton Jr., 32.

Payton's Tahoe slid off the road and rolled after hitting a metal light pole. He was ejected and died at the scene.

He was a father of four with another child on the way. The family is planning a balloon release in his memory this coming weekend.

Police say Kinsey's Nissan continued on for approximately 100 yards before stopping.

She was booked for DUI-Serious Bodily Injury, reckless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

Highway 75 was shut down at Hamilton until shortly after 5 A.M.
