What better way to spend a summer’s evening than listening to live music in the park? Not only does it feel good to be in the great outdoors and socialize, historians and scientists will attest to the importance of music.
Researchers believe music helps strengthen human connections, improve communication, and share information.
Today’s music does exactly the same thing: It bonds people together in a shared experience.
Concerts are a great way to honor our human history and get a little of that feel good vibe. Bridge Beats is a perfect example.
Bridge Beats is a free, family-friendly concert series brought to you by the Omaha Parks & Recreation Department. This year, the city is bringing six concerts to the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge Plaza.
Concerts will be held every Friday night for 6 weeks beginning July 12th and lasting through August 16th from 6-9 p.m.
The series features homegrown, Omaha cover bands across a variety of genres. One band, The Personics, performs a range of covers from artists such as Aretha Franklin, Neil Diamond, the B-52s, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Eat World and Pink.
Another band, R-Style, brings in sounds from groups such as The Temptations and Kool and the Gang.
The musical variety of the series is perfect for a mood-boosting evening and the different styles can evoke different positive moods. For example, rap music has been found to aid people with depression while pop has been proven to boost physical performance.
Whatever your musical tastes, Bridge Beats has it covered. In addition to the concerts, there are activities to entertain the kiddos, like chalk and bubbles, plus giveaways. Food can be brought in or purchased from a variety of food trucks. And of course, adult beverages will be available, courtesy of Shucks Fish House and Oyster Bar.
