Jennifer Ortega joined the 6 News team in October of 2018 as a reporter and weekend anchor.

Jennifer Ortega joined the 6 News team in October of 2018 as a reporter and weekend anchor.

She came to the Midwest form Orlando, Florida where she covered stories that included the murder of singer Christina Grimmie, the Pulse Nightclub Shooting, Hurricane Irma and a 2-year-old boy being drowned by an alligator at Disney Parks.

Before heading to the Sunshine State, Jennifer spent nearly four years reporting in the Deep South, working at WAPT in Jackson, Mississippi and WCBI in Columbus, Mississippi. She received the Outstanding Journalist Award from the Jackson City Council. Before that, she got her start at WPEC in West Palm Beach, Florida where she was a video editor and photographer.

Jennifer is bilingual. She is fluent in Spanish in English. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and raised in South Florida. Jennifer graduated from Florida Atlantic University where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Her hobbies include riding her bike, cooking and taking her West Highland Terriers to the park.
