Mason joined the WOWT 6 News Team in June 2018.
Mason is a Des Moines, IA native through-and-through. After graduating high school, he went on to earn his degree in Broadcast News from Drake University in Des Moines. Mason grew up writing short stories, with hopes of becoming a novelist or magazine journalist. Everything worked out as he planned of course…actually, Mason switched course after his freshman year of college, when a professor pushed him in the broadcast direction.
After graduating, Mason started his news career at KTIV in Sioux City, IA as a multimedia journalist. He spent quite a bit of time in eastern Nebraska, before joining WOWT, covering the tri-state area along the Missouri River. Mason was a part of KTIV’s coverage of Pottawattamie Co. Deputy Mark Burbridge’s funeral service and dangerous ice storms in Northwest Iowa; both newscasts were awarded Emmys.
After two years in Sioux City, Mason knew Omaha was the perfect place to continue his journey. Since joining the WOWT 6 News Team in June 2018, the greater Omaha community has embraced him with open arms.
Even he’s not making hundreds of calls and filing through stacks of police reports, Mason likes to stay active outside of the newsroom. You can find him jogging around any one of Omaha’s running trails or hacking away from the tee box on the links. Mason also likes to visit the Omaha Zoo, bowl, hit up the movie theater…a lot. When football season rolls around, don’t expect him to leave the couch during a Hawkeyes (sorry, not sorry Huskers fans) or Vikings game.
Mason is interested in telling personal stories, ones the rest of Omaha rarely get to see. If you have any stories that need to be out there, don’t hesitate to email Mason (firstname.lastname@example.org).
