Meteorologist Jade Steffens is the newest member of the First Alert Weather Team, joining in June 2023.
Jade started her career at KQTV in St. Joseph, Mo., where she spent two years covering morning and weekend shows, reporting on community stories, and even doing some producing work!
Jade began two segments during her time in St. Jospeh: "Pet of the Week," showcasing adoptable shelter pets in the area; as well as her bi-weekly "Brainstorming with Jade Steffens" feature, answering weather questions from kids. The segment was awarded by the Missouri Broadcast Association in June 2023.
Before moving north, Jade attended the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!), graduating in 2021 with a degree in meteorology and a minor in journalism. Born and raised in the Kansas City area, Jade attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School and often visits KC to see her family and friends.
Jade is really excited to be in Omaha with all the midwestern charm — and weather! — she grew up with. When she's not talking about the weather, Jade enjoys staying active and spending time with her beloved cat, Stella.

Thursday morning, the temperature jumped 7° in just ten minutes. Meanwhile, the dewpoint 8° in fifteen minutes. All of this can be attributed to a phenomenon called a “heat burst.”

Tuesday morning, the area hit a record highest low temperature of 80°, smashing the previous record low of 76°.
