Clay Ostarly joins WOWT's First Alert Weather Team as an AP award-winning and NWA certified meteorologist and multimedia journalist.
Clay was born and raised in New Orleans and most recently worked in Roanoke, Va.
He says his passion for weather started as a kid — on May 8, 1995, to be exact: A torrential rain event set up across South Louisiana, which dumped nearly 20 inches of rain in just under 48 hours. The rain caused major flooding where Clay was living at the time.
At age 5, Clay was terrified of weather. However, it was this flood that caused him to watch The Weather Channel religiously. As he watched, he learned more and more about weather until, eventually, he wasn't afraid of it anymore. That's how he decided he wanted to be a meteorologist.
