LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - For the first time in Nebraska history, casino doors opened for people to gamble.

Saturday morning eager guests cheered as Warhorse Casino in Lincoln welcomed its first guests at 10 a.m.

Some arrived over an hour before the grand opening.

“[I was] out in the parking lot a quarter to nine and actually in line since 9 o’clock,” said one guest.

Others recognized the importance.

“Today’s my birthday, and so I decided this would be something cool to do. Obviously it’s the first one here, so it’s kind of a monumental thing,” said another.

This comes less than 24 hours after the gaming commission voted Friday to approve the casino’s license.

“Everybody has been working together to make this day happen. Nebraska should be very proud,” said Lynne McNally, CEO of Nebraska Horseman. ”It’s been frustrating at times, slow at times, but we finally got here.”
