OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - People of all ages publish books with different genres.

But have you ever heard of a 13-year-old publishing a book?

Each word helps paint a picture inside your head taking you on a thrilling journey.

Harmony Banwo is an eighth-grader who goes to Millard North Middle School and recently, she published her very first book named Shattered Windows.

“My book is about this character where she’s put in this position where she either has to kill her mom or to die herself and the book takes place of how she ended up choosing her choice and why she is going and feeling like this as shes going through this process,” said Harmony.

Harmony started writing her book about a year ago and started to show her family and friends.

They immediately gave her support and encouraged her to make it into a book. But at first, she was skeptical if they really meant that.

“When they first told me that I thought they were just saying that to say that but when a lot of people started telling me that I was like ‘oh wow maybe I should really consider of like what I’m doing should be a passion.’”

The hobby turned passion has shown to pay off. The support of her book was on a bigger stage when she had a book signing at her own school!

“I didn’t expect it to be that big like I heard they were talking about it but it kept being pushed back because of COVID. So when it really happened, I saw all those kids running up to me, and people I never would think read the book, I was like ‘wow this is really fun.’”

Harmony’s goal wasn’t only to give everyone a thrilling story but to also help people get more of a perspective on mental health.

“I feel like writing this book helps me understand about mental health cause when I was writing it I wanted my characters to have mental health issues to give awareness.”

Not only can you get the book from Harmony herself, but you can even buy the book on Amazon.

She’s happy that her work can get into the hands of people not only in Omaha but around the world.

“I feel like accomplished. I feel that a lot of people in my school is successful but I feel like for me that this is my own and I can use that to make a mark on the world.

Harmony does plan to publish more books. She is working on the sequel to Shattered Windows right now.
