LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Nebraska remains one of two states in the nation with no type of medical marijuana on the books.

It’s why signature gatherers are crisscrossing the state with the idea of getting the issue on the November ballot.

State Sen. Anna Wishart of Lincoln says the initiative is likely to have strong support.

“I’d wager to say that the medical cannabis initiative will have more support than any other ballot initiative in Nebraska,” Wishart said.

Wishart is one of the organizers of the two initiatives that would allow doctors to legally prescribe medical marijuana in Nebraska, while the liquor control commission would regulate it.

She spoke today during a forum of the Lincoln League of Women Voters.

The group plans to have signature collectors near the arena in Lincoln when hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg performs on April 20 at the Pinnacle Bank Arena.

“A shout out to Snoop Dogg on 4/20,” Wishart added. " He’s decided to come to Nebraska and grace us with his presence. We will have a major presence at that Concert at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Hear great music and also sign the petition.”
