David’s Evening Forecast - Heat index over 100 this weekend
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - After a cooler start to July, the heat is here. Temperatures this afternoon warmed into the middle 90s with heat index readings close to 100 degrees. We will stay very warm through the evening, holding onto the 90s through sunset. Air quality remains a concern, with low-level pollution contributing to low air quality again this evening. Overnight we’ll only cool off into the middle 70s.
Even hotter weather is expected this weekend, with high temperatures climbing into the mid and upper 90s for much of the area. We may see more hazy skies Saturday as another plume of wildfire smoke passes by. A few patches of clouds are possible Sunday, but it will still be on the hot side. Humid conditions will continue as well, pushing the heat index over 100 degrees for much of the area, as high as 103 to 104 at times. Temperatures may dip slightly Monday, but don’t expect much relief. Intense heat quickly returns, and it now appears Tuesday and Wednesday may be the hottest of next week with highs over 100 degrees.
A slight change in the weather pattern may allow some slightly cooler air to sneak into the region by Thursday or Friday. This may allow temperatures to fall into the lower 90s, but we are still not looking at any major relief any time soon.
