Omaha Public Schools hosts jobs fair at Baxter Arena
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Like many area businesses, the Omaha Public School District has put out its “help wanted” sign. The district is looking for workers and they set up a one-stop shop at Baxter Arena to hold a jobs fair Thursday.
OPS officials say the number of applicants making their way to Baxter has been steady most of the day. OPS is looking to fill jobs in district operations, including nutrition services.
“We’re looking for people who are dedicated to kids, who can be there for them and want to make a difference in the lives of children,” said Tammy Yarmon, director of nutrition services. “When you’re looking at 52,000 students, what’s a better place to make an impact on kids?
OPS also is looking to fill spots in security, custodial work, and transportation.
“Were the first ones students see at the beginning of the day and the last ones that they see,” said Trevis Sallis, director of transportation at OPS. “So we want people who have a smiling face to welcome students on the bus.”
“We have full-time jobs, we have part-time jobs. Not just in transportation. The district is looking for people in nutrition services operations, security. This is districtwide recruitment, and what’s great about this, this is a one-stop shop. People can come in, they can apply online, they can do the interview right onsite, which is great for anyone.”
The OPS fair at Baxter runs until 6 p.m. Thursday.
