David’s Evening Forecast - Heat wave arrives for the weekend
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Hazy skies and warm, humid weather dominated the area again today as temperatures climbed into the upper 80s around the metro. A few patches of clouds the haze from wildfire smoke actually helped to keep temperatures just shy of 90 for one last day. Plenty more heat is on the way in the coming days. Temperatures this evening will stay in the 80s through at least 10pm, only cooling into the lower 70s overnight.
Mainly sunny skies are expected tomorrow, though we may still be hazy at times. Temperatures will quickly warm to near 90 by Noon, with highs topping out around 96 degrees. With the humidity in place, the heat index could climb as high as 98 to100 degrees. Even hotter weather is expected this weekend with high topping out around 98. That will likely push the heat index into the low 100s.
There is a slight chance for a few storms Sunday evening into Monday as a weak wind shift tries to push into the area. While rain currently doesn’t appear to be widespread, where storms form heavy downpours are possible. The clouds and rain may drop temperatures slightly on Monday, but highs will still top out in the 90s. After a very brief break, the heat will quickly return, perhaps even hotter than what we see over the weekend. Odds are increasing that highs climb to near or even above 100 degrees by Wednesday of next week, with the intense heat sticking around through the end of next week.
