Douglas County Fair opens Friday at new location
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The day is a lot of hard work. It’s preparation for Friday.
The Douglas County Fair opens Friday at Sycamore Farms in Waterloo. It’s the first time in its long history that the fair will be calling Sycamore Farms — think JunkStock — home, and it is providing plenty of room and fun.
“Some great hands of activities for the whole family,” said Kori Jensen, director of the fair. “We got the Ferris wheel behind me, tons of exhibits and things to see in the arena.”
There will be vendors, games, live music, and more — but first, a lot of people have to put in a lot of time to make it all happen.
Forrest Hill, 13, has been at the farm for several hours, helping set the stage for the live music.
“Stage took three hours just to get the bottom part done,” he said. “So a lot of work goes into it.”
From people setting up the vendor stations to coordinating parking, it will all pay off when everything comes alive for the weekend.
“I mean, it’s cool to know that there’s gonna be a lot of people that are going to be enjoying musing in the county fair,” Hill said. “So I think it’s worth it.”
And there’s added excitement this year since the fair had to be scaled back last year. Jensen is looking forward to seeing everyone back.
“Just to be engaged this summer and back with our community and our friends and family ... so we’re really excited to celebrate that with everyone at the fair,” she said.
The Douglas County Fair is free admission all weekend, from Friday to Monday.
