ONAWA, Iowa (WOWT) - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources issued a boil advisory Friday for residents of Onawa after a malfunctioning sensor drained the city’s water tank Thursday.

According to a news release, the water pressure was restored but the state advised Onawa residents — including the area along Interstate 29 — to boil water “until results from two days of testing show water is safe to drink.”

Any water that can be ingested, including ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation, should be boiled for one minute and then cooled before use. Bottled water also is an option.

Tap water is OK for bathing, the state said.
