College World Series: Mississippi State explodes late, beating Virginia; Texas eliminates Tennessee
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Through seven innings Griff McGarry was in complete control pitching for Virginia, in fact Mississippi State didn’t have a hit and trailed 4-0. It appeared to be over, and then it all changed. After a walk, Kellum Clark cleared the fence in right, cutting the difference in half to two runs. The next two batters reached base, then Tanner Allen hit cleared them with a three run home run.
That put the Bulldogs up 5-4, they added another run and gave one up too, to win 6-5.
A huge win when it did not look good, Mississippi State now has two chances to win one game and advance to the championship series. They will play next on Friday night.
Earlier in an elimination game, Texas beat Tennessee 8-4 with Peyton Manning in Omaha watching in person. Cam Williams and Ivan Melendez each drove in two runs for the Longhorns. They will play another elimination game Thursday night against Virginia.
